Tribute to Mom
I know Mother's Day was yesterday, but this is a post I cannot let pass. I was wanting to post a tribute to my Mom yesterday, and then time got away so I thought the moment had passed. Then I was at a playdate today with two other Moms who were complaining about their own Mothers and I knew I had to do this post.
I have to say I did not have the best or closest relationship with my Mom during those wonderful teen years, but as I left home, became a wife, and now a Mother, I have learned how lucky I truly am to have the Mother I have. First, and foremost my strongest memory of my Mom is getting up every morning only to see her on her knees in front of our couch praying for her family. Many people have asked her what she did right in rearing her girls, and she always says it is by God's grace we turned out the way we did. God's grace is amazing, but God has also rewarded a Mother who would wake at 5 am every morning to cover her family in prayer. Even today, I know my Mom is beginning each day praying over her family. I am so blessed to have a Mother that loves her family, but loves the Lord even more!
The thing that I truly appreciate about my Mom is her ability to hold her tongue. She may not agree with all the decisions we make, or how we choose to rear our children, but she will never let you know. This is a quality that she has learned from her own Mother. My Mother has never spoken an unkind word about any of her son-in-laws, or ever given advice on how to raise her grandchildren. This was the topic of discussion at my playdate today. Two other Moms were complaining about how their Moms are always telling them how to raise their kids. In fact, one of the Moms hung up on her Mother this morning because she was so annoyed with her. I can say I have never hung the phone up on my Mom; now Kennedy is good at hanging up on Nana, but that's a whole other story :)
So, Happy Mother's Day, and thank you for being soooooooooooooooo Wonderful!!! To a great Frother (inside joke).
